PLEASE READ!!! This
page is a work in progress, an experiment with a new, easier to follow design and format. Obviously I have yet to add
other decendants of Phineas. I do not take credit for artwork here, it is stock graphics I found on-line and will add
credits as soon as I can clarify where I found each piece (sloppy web searches on my part). As
always, if you can provide corrections, or additional information or items, or, if you would like to provide feedback on the
new design, please EMAIL me, Áine (Irene) MacCollar.

BIOGRAPHY Phineas was born to Patrick and Bridget McCollor
on August 1, 1839 in Madison, Maine. When he was six or seven, the family moved back to Canada for the last time, his mother
dying three or four years later when he was around ten years old. When Phineas was eleven or twelve, his father took
the surviving children back to Maine for good. Phineas became a farmer, probably working first with his father, Patrick,
and later in and around Solon, Bingham and finally Embden, ME. CIVIL WAR ARRIVES Phineas and his brother
Michael enlisted together into the 16th Maine Regiment on August 14, 1862. Michael would not serve long before being forced
to leave due to illness, however, Phineas would stay with the regiment through the all-important and tragic Battle of Gettysburg.
Having survived this battle, In 1863 he was promoted to
Full Corporal and was made a full sergeant in 1864 and
transferred from "A" company to "B" company in 1865. He was wounded at the battle of Laurel Hill, but
survived his injuries. Nelson and McCollor*
tell in their book of an interesting story - that during the entire war, Phineas carried a board or plank on his back. Supposedly,
this was so that he could entertain his fellow soldiers with an Irish jig.
Mustered out from Arlington Heights, Virginia, on
June 5, 1865, Phineas was described by the Army as being 5'10" tall (just a tiny bit shorter than Michael), with light
brown hair, light complexion, and blue eyes.

BACK
HOME TO SOLON TO START HIS FAMILY Almost three years after leaving Maine, Phineas returned from the
war, and to Solon, where he again took up farming. On May 1, 1867 he married his first wife, Eliza Hunnewell. They were
united in marriage by Justice of the Peace, T.F. Boothby. She was 22 years old, and was the daughter of John and Lucy
(Chase) Hunnewell of Embden. He was in his late twenties at the time of their marriage. A year after their marriage, in May of 1868, Eliza gave birth to the
only child they would have together, John (conflicting information is given in the Nelson/McCollor book* regarding the year
of John's birth and his middle initial as well). Tragically, two months later on July 5th, Eliza died. She was only 23 years
old. We don't know why she died, but, considering the times, it would not be surprising if a complication of the childbirth
was the reason for her death. She was buried in Embden, in the Murphy Cemetery, next to Phineas. Later, her sister's son with
Phineas, was buried next to her. I'm not sure where her own son was buried, perhaps he was buried without a marker.
Almost three years after his wife's death, Phineas married a second time, on March 16, 1871, to Eliza's
older sister, Bridget Hunnewell, in Embden. This wife would not die young, she would outlive Phineas by more than two
decades. Together, Phineas and Bridget had three children. Tragically, their first child together, a son, born in October
of the same year they married, lived only a matter of hours. It would be more than four years before their second child, Lucy,
came along. Their third and final child together, Teresa, was born in 1879. The family was reportedly living in Moscow, ME in 1880.

Referencing the book by Nelson and McCollor*,
there are two conflicting dates and locations of death for Phineas. In one part of the book, they report that he died and
was buried in Embden, on July 27, 1892. In another part of the book, they report his death as having taken place two days
later, on July 29, at Bingham. The 27th is the true date according to his grave marker. He was 52 years and 11 months old. A 1900 census lists Bridget as living alone in Skowhegan
next door to her daughter Theresa and her family living next door. Bridget lived to age of 71, passing away t the age of 71
in Bingham, 7/13/1914.
RESEARCH NOTE: John and Lucy Hunnewell are buried in Embden cemetery near Phineas,
Eliza, and Bridget's son. Also buried there is another Hunnewell daughter, Clara Ella, who died at age of 14 in 1869. John
died at 66 years old, on July 12, 1883, and Lucy October 15, 1885 at the age of 68.

MARGARET. At the time of the 1930 census, his maternal grandfather still lived a couple of doors away.

MONA'S STORY:
Mona's mother died when Mona was about 8 years old. Mona's adoptive parent(s) were BENJAMIN W. SANBORN (1874 - 1903?? (three family trees gives
a death year for Benjamin as 1903 which is confusing in correlation to the supposed adoption date for Mona, indicating perhaps
that she was adopted by him at least three years prior to her mother's death, not afterward.) & FLORENCE M. WARD
(1878 - 1937). They had at least three other children; The one's I have found records for are:
EDITH M. (abt. 1895/96 - ?), GLADYS (1900 - ?), MILDRED F. (1901 - ?). Mr. Sanborn is recorded as Mona's father on
both her daughter Marjorie's birth certificate and Mona's death certificate. Mrs. Sanborn was not listed on Mona's death
certificate as her mother, her biological mother Rosa was instead. The 1930 census shows the Shepard family living at Southern
Pines, Moore, North Carolina. At 76, she died quite suddenly of a heart attack in Roanoke Rapids, N. Carolina, ironically
on East Maine St. (if spelled correctly in census!). She was buried in Halifax Methodist Church Cemetery. (There
is reportedly information on Mona and her family in the "Shepard Genealogy, Thomas Jane Shepard, b. 1803& Descendants"
written by William McDonald, comp. 1957). Please EMAIL ME , Áine Irene, if you can provide corrections to this data. Additional data, documents, & photographs are always

PLEASE NOTE: I am still transcribing
from documents that have been so graciously emailed to me in the past. I believe I have the correct children listed
under the correct parents, however, may have many siblings in the wrong order as I am missing many dates. I know that there
are quite a few great grandchildren of Violet, however, I do not have names and dates, yet.
